The main pipelines and cathodic protection

The General Administration of Main Pipelines and Cathodic Protection is considered one of the most important pillars upon which the company relies. It is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining the main steel pipelines, valves, outlets, valve chambers, and outlet chambers. Additionally, it implements the latest cathodic protection methods to protect the steel pipelines from corrosion and increase the network’s lifespan. The following achievements were made during 2018:

  • Execution of approximately 24 kilometers of various diameter high-pressure steel pipelines during 2018. Natural gas has been supplied through some pipelines, and the supply for the remaining pipelines is ongoing in 2019 to connect natural gas to residential areas and various projects.
  • Conducting preventive, planned, and emergency maintenance for the main steel pipeline network, main underground valves installed on gas pipelines, valve chambers, and outlets on gas pipelines, as well as maintenance works for car refueling station modules.
  • Carrying out periodic maintenance works for New Giza City and the Mekka Factory of Giza Spinning and Weaving Company in Kafr Hakim.
  • Re-examination of the main natural gas pipeline supplying Cairo Governorate and supporting Giza Governorate from North Heliopolis to the odorization station in At-Tebin, with a pressure of 30 bars and a diameter of 24 inches using the smart pigging system in coordination with Gasco Company.
  • Establishment of a 24-inch valve and an underground valve chamber on the house line with a pressure of 30 bars (North Heliopolis/At-Tebin) under the supervision of the holding company to secure the supply of New Cairo City during emergencies.
  • Strengthening the cathodic protection systems for main steel pipelines conflicting with major projects and strategic roads.
